The 127-mile-long Seward Highway between Anchorage and Seward is a National Scenic Byway, as well as an All-American Road. The trip normally takes a little over 2 hours, but enticing stops along the way could extend your drive. Founded in 1903 as the southern terminus of a railroad to the interior, Seward is still served by the Alaska Railroad. The Coastal Classic between Anchorage and Seward runs daily from May to September. For more information, contact the Alaska Railroad: (800) 544-0552 or (907) 265-2494; or PO Box 107500, Anchorage, AK 99510-7500. Seward is also home to a small airport. Although there is no regulary scheduled air service, charter operators fly in and out of the airport via fixed-wing planes and helicopters.
